In 2027, Intersolar Brasil Nordeste will hold its seventh edition, further strengthening Fortaleza’s status as a leading meeting point for the solar energy market and related technologies in Northeast Brazil. On 28–29 April 2027, at the Centro de Eventos do Ceará, industry experts, companies, government officials, investors and professionals will gather to discuss the transformations shaping the future of energy in the country.
Brazil has consolidated its position as one of the world’s leading markets for solar PV energy. According to data released by the Brazilian Solar Photovoltaic Energy Association (ABSOLAR), the country’s installed solar capacity, encompassing both centralised and distributed generation, had reached 77.3 GW by September 2026. This evolution reflects increased investment, the diversification of the energy mix and new business opportunities across the sector’s entire value chain.
The Northeast region, for its part, benefits from exceptional natural conditions for renewable energy generation and is playing an increasingly strategic role in Brazil’s energy transition. According to ABSOLAR, the region concentrates a significant share of the country’s centralised solar PV generation (51% of a total of 23.6 GW) and is experiencing rapid growth in distributed generation, which has reached 11 GW from total of 53.7 GW, or 20% of the total installed capacity. The strong presence of solar energy in the Northeast opens up new opportunities for innovative business models, energy storage, demand-side management and solutions that enhance the flexibility of the electricity grid.
Ceará has also established itself as a key Brazilian hub for the development a new industrial value chain centred on low-carbon hydrogen, driven by the Green Hydrogen Hub at the Pecém Complex. With its port, industrial infrastructure and strategic location for international trade, the hub had secured seven pre-contracts with companies by 2026, including Auren Energia, Casa dos Ventos, EDF, Fortescue, FRV, Voltalia and Fuella AS.
The rapid growth of renewable energy sources brings both opportunities and new challenges for the Brazilian power system. These include addressing curtailment and generation constraints, advancing energy storage, and making targeted investments in grid expansion, flexibility and stability.
At the same time, regulatory changes are set to transform the energy landscape. Decree No. 13,097/2026 has regulated the opening of the market to consumers supplied at voltages below 2.3 kV, establishing, among other measures, the option for industrial and commercial consumers to choose their energy supplier, effective from 25 November 2027.
