Playing a key role in the low-carbon economy, Brazil added 15 GW of solar PV capacity in 2024, bringing its total to over 56 GW – now second only to hydroelectric power. An emerging application, agrivoltaics, provides synergy between PV technology and agriculture to mutual benefit. Rio Grande do Sul has the fourth largest installed base of PV generation and is also Brazil’s fourth largest grain producer. Moreover, expanding distributed generation by using renewables and improving energy storage are crucial for reducing the effects of climate change in the country’s south. Against this promising backdrop, Solar Promotion International and Aranda Eventos will host the Intersolar Summit Brasil Sul Conference in Porto Alegre on October 28–29, 2025.

The Intersolar Summit Brasil Sul 2025 is taking place just as the state of Rio Grande do Sul implements a wide-ranging plan for reconstruction, adaptation and resilience in the face of extreme weather events. The so-called Rio Grande Plan (PRG) is the response to mitigate the impacts of the floods that ravaged the state in 2024, affecting one million people. One year after the disaster, an assessment of the PRG's actions shows a total investment of R$ 6.9 billion on several fronts.
In addition, a comprehensive long-term Economic Development Plan was drawn up. In this context, it is worth highlighting the expansion of infrastructure coverage, especially in the various modes of logistics, and the implementation of a State Energy Transition and Decarbonisation Plan, aimed at directing public incentives towards renewable energies in accordance with regional characteristics, economies of scale and strategic development. In this scenario of diverse opportunities for the industry, the Summit is the ideal forum to discuss the contribution of solar PV energy, energy storage, agrivoltaics and related topics.
